History of The Viva


Vauxhall Viva HA

The Vauxhall Viva was first released in 1963 - 1966 it was called the HA. 309,538 were produced with the engine size of 1057cc. This car was the first proper compact car that vauxhall made after World War II. Vauxhall also made a van version of the HA which they up until 1983.

Vauxhall Viva HB
The next version of Vauxhall Viva was the HB. It was released from 1966 - 1970. 566,319 were produced. The types of models being 2 door saloon, 4 door saloon and a 3 door estate. With engine sizes of 1159cc, 1599cc, 1975cc (GT version). The shape of the HB was Changed from the HA after American GM (general motors) designed it towards the Chevrolet Impala. The suspension set up was also changed, having double wish bone and coil springs.

Vauxhall Viva HC
The Vauxhall Viva HC was released 1970 - 1979. 640,863 were produced. the types of models being 2 & 4 door saloon and a 3 door estate with the engine sizes of 1159cc, 1256cc, 1759cc and a 2279cc. The HC was very similar setup as the HB but more space on the interior thanks to redesigned seating and bulk head arrangements. The 1975cc GT version of the HC was not offered instead it was renamed for the more luxurious models, such as Magnum and Firenza. The HC was the stepping stop for the Firenza and the Magnum. The firenza was later removed from the Canadian market due to corrosion and reliability issues.
