Today I started to remove the v6 lump from the omega. I have been unclipping cables and removing things that I truly don't know what they are or where they go. This engine looks like a mean piece of kit but Hey I guess I will learn. Looks like a £15 investment on a Haynes manual might come in handy.Anyway I have listed the Omega on eBay for braking spares in hope to raise some revenue for a 240 Volvo. This is because I need a rear axle and bits.
I started today by removing the grille and front headlights. It took me a while to work out how to get the bottom nut undone from the light but in the end I just forced an extension bar in. I then moved on to Air intake and filter housing. I took the hoses off from the throttle bodies back to the filter box, it comes out in a big horse shoe shape with the cold start and MAF all in one.
Then I moved onto the radiator. I decided to drain the water out in stages by taking off the hoses from the top and letting it drain then I moved onto the lower hoses. I have noticed that the engine and radiators is full of orange rust colored gunk, I think its due to the last owner not using anti-freeze. So once the engine is out I am going to make an exact same size wooden model of it and then send it off to be reconditioned. If you are wondering why I am going to make a wooden model of the engine, It is because it will be easier to measure the car and make changes quicker to the engine bay plus i am less likely to damage the engine by taking it in and out all the time.
finally I get the radiator out plus all the connecting pipes and tank. I set out to remove the air conditioning units. So I start to unscrew the pipes and the heavens start to open and I get soaking wet. Since my car is in the workshop there is no room left to fit my Omega, and whats worse I cant move it because it has no front riding gear. So looks like its rained off.... For Now.
