The Roof Leather

Removing the Roof Leather

This is one of the last things I have to do before I can start to think about putting parts back in. Looking at my roof i can see that under the leather it is bubbling with rust so I have decided to take off the leather and have a look. I took off the leather by pulling at it with plyers an added bonus was it was a hot day so the under glue was soft. Got it off in about ten minutes but unfortunately not in one piece.
After getting a good look at it I realized that it was not that bad. So i set out with my wire brush and mallet to get rid of the rust spots. To be honest I was Surprised. The roof took me a good hour of elbow grease but now i know its good. Once all the rust was sanded out i put some rust paint over it to protect it until paint.

Fixing up the exterior

since i am waiting for a donor i decided that i should do some of the minor things with the car.
So i pushed it into one my garages (where it plans to stay) and started by fixing up the outside.
this was a list of minor things firstly i scanned the car for rust, thankfully the car has been well looked after so rust areas were very minor. I did this by sanding out the ares of surface rust and putting a protective coat of paint over it to protect it till the body spray stage(which will be a long time from now).

After i was happy that all the rust areas where grinned out and protected I move onto the wing mirror that was broken. This was a simple five minute job. dont know why but the wing mirror was broken off at the base. so i took the whole thing apart and it was as simple as putting a screw through a spring and into mirror stalk. Job, Jobbed.
